Viking Tough Guy Jared Allen: They Kicked Our Butts!
Safe to say that Jared Allen and the rest of the Minnesota Vikings defense were left wondering what hit them after Thursday night’s 36-17 beatdown at the hands of the Buccaneers.
Allen, who went into some extracurricular combat with Buc tackle Donald Penn, didn’t hold back when he summed up what happened to his defense:
“Hats off to them, they came in here and kicked our butts,” is how the big defensive end laid it out. “Just top to bottom. I don’t know if we overlooked them or not, but it’s an embarrassing game for us.”
Allen found himself locked up with the monstrous Penn after one play in the second half, Penn drove Allen into the ground then kept after him. Allen didn’t like it and retaliated then the fisticuffs started. Penn ripped Allen’s helmet off and it was on. Allen ended up with the bridge of his nose bloodied. It obvioulsy motivated him, on the next play, he sacked Josh Freeman but that ended up being the only time the Vikings got to Freeman in the game.
Freeman did his damage with three touchdown passes and it was Doug Martin who did the most damage to the Vikings.
“These little backs are killing us,” said the other Minnesota defensive end, Brian Robison, who batted down three Freeman passes but couldn’t do much to stop Martin, who ended up with 214 yards of total offense.
“Bottom line,” added Robison, ”is that they did a pretty good job of pretty much of beating our brains in.”
