Greg Schiano Won’t Comment on Wright, Likes Leonard Johnson
“They story that broke yesterday (Sunday) on Eric Wright, per league guidelines, I can’t discuss it,” is how Greg Schiano started his Monday press conference at One Buc Place.
“It’s not appropriate, I’d rather not,” he added when asked to express his personal feelings on the possible four-game suspension that Wright is facing.
Wright was at practice Monday but didn’t participate due to an Achilles tendon problem. “We didn’t find out about that until after the game,” Schiano added. The fact that Wright was at the facility could be an indicator that the Bucs will possibly appeal the suspension which would give Wright one more week before he’s gone for four. But the Achilles problem will have to improve as well, according to Schiano.
If Wright were gone, who might step in?
“I was pleased with the job Leonard Johnson did Thursday night,” Schiano said of the Bucs home-grown free agent who played at Largo High. “He competed and the stage doesn’t get any bigger. He had the one interception and the other one is up for discussion,” Schiano said of the play where Johnson had a steal but was out of bounds as determined by the officials.
Schiano said he was also pleased by Da’Quan Bowers’ efforts against the Vikings. “I thought it was a really good start for him. He just did third downs. Today (Monday) he went in for some three-play sequences.”
